Why Desert Sunsets are More Beautiful
Sunrises and sunsets in general are among some of the most gorgeous and awe-inspiring natural phenomena that you will ever witness. Desert sunrises and desert sunsets are even more phenomenal!
Don’t believe us? Here are a few reasons why desert sunsets are more beautiful and we have photos to prove it. Whether you become convinced or you still remain a skeptic, you will need to visit the Sahara Desert to witness the phenomenal desert sunrises and desert sunsets with your own eyes.

Less Pollution
Rayleigh Scattering is the process in which sunlight interacts with the molecules in the air, primarily nitrogen and oxygen, and scatters in all directions in a way that affects the blue colour of the sky and the reddening of the sun. That is how rainbows are formed when sunlight scatters inside the water particles in the atmosphere after rain.
The colour of the sky and the colour of the sun can look different in various environments depending on the molecules in the air. Similar to how we use different camera filters to filter out colour from our photos, the air quality in the atmosphere can filter out the colour from the sunlight. This explains the urban myth that air pollution enhances the beauty of sunsets. The reality is that air pollution indeed changes the appearance of sunsets, but whether it is more beautiful or not depends on your personal taste.
Many of our travelers visiting the Sahara Desert in North Africa come from urban cities, so they appreciate the desert sunsets that appear more vivid with their purity of colour.

Drier Air
Dust plumes blowing across the Sahara Desert can create a layer of dry air. The drier air allows for more vivid colour wavelengths to shine through. When there is wind in the desert, the dust particles and the sand particles reflect sunlight that can create atmospheric optical effects.

Beautiful Landscape
The vast, open expanse of the Sahara desert creates an incredible backdrop for sunrises and sunsets. Add to it the rippled sand dunes and you have a postcard-perfect sunset you will never forget. If you have in the deep Sahara of Algeria, you will also be marveling at the spectacular geological formation.
